Personal bio: 

Ion Gil holds a Ph.D. (European Mention) achieved with his thesis “Knowledge-based society and Innovation in the new cultural spaces: An approach from the case of the digitized museums”. The thesis received the Ignacio Ellacuría Award for the best PhD thesis defended in 2012 at the University of Deusto. Previously, he obtained the grade of History – Cultural Heritage at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Deusto – Donostia in 2003 and, a year later, finished a Master of Arts in Euroculture at the same university. 

From 2003, he worked as a member of the research team of the University of Deusto – Donostia eK+i, Culture, Development and Innovation in Europe. He obtained a Marie Curie Early Stage Fellowship of the European Union in 2007 and moved to the Museology Laboratory of the University of the Aegean in Mytilini (Greece), where he worked within the framework of the European network CHIRON – Cultural Heritage Informatics Oriented Network on a research project on the use of web technologies for the diffusion of cultural contents of the museums and the utilization of these resources by virtual visitors. Additionally, the General Directorate of Research and Technology of the Greek Government granted him another economic fund to continue with his research. He joined CICtourGUNE - Cooperative Research Centre in 2011. In february 2016, he joined the University of Deusto as a lecturer. He teaches History of Arts, as well as Heritage and Cultural Resources and Products.

His research area is focused on the implementation of technologies in the cultural sector, as well as on the analysis of users’ behaviour and the emotional dimension on technological environments. He has taken part in several national and international conferences.
